Moxy - RRUFF 41

Meet Moxy RRUFF #41!!

Moxy was part of a large litter born 6/9/07.  At 3 days of age, it was noticed that Moxy had a bulge in her groin extending towards her abdomen. Moxy was seen by a vet and it was decided that it was a bit early to truly diagnose Moxy's problem, but the vet suspected an Inguinal Hernia.

Moxy played and grew with her Mom and siblings, but unfortunately her bulge grew too. RRUFF was contacted about Moxy prior to her 6 week vet visit. We were told that Moxy may need surgery to repair her Inguinal Hernia and if that was the case would RRUFF take her. Thanks to the Sienna Fund RRUFF was able to agree.

Moxy saw the vet at 6 weeks of age and was diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia. Moxy remained with her litter until 2 days prior to turning 8 weeks old. After the surrender, a RRUFF volunteer brought her straight to one of our veterinarians.  It was decided that surgery needed to be performed soon and Moxy was scheduled for the next available surgery opening, which was 5 days later.

While in foster care, Moxy charmed everyone she met - what a face! On Moxy's third day of foster care, her foster Mom noticed the bulge looked bigger. The vet was contacted and Moxy was put on "bed rest" and had her abdomen wrapped every time she was taken out for attention or potty time.  Moxy's surgery was moved up to the following day.

Moxy's surgery showed that it was not an Inguinal Hernia, but an accidental trauma most likely caused by her mother stepping on her. Moxy's muscle was ripped from her abdomen to her rib cage. Her internal organs protruded through the hole and were only supported by her skin. She spent over 3 hours in surgery to repair the tear. Moxy left surgery with two 4-5" incisions and greeted her foster family with tons of kisses.

Moxy is expected to heal well. The vet feels she will grow normally and that there is a very low possibility of the tear reoccurring.

Moxy is presently in foster care in MA recovering and enjoying tons of love and attention!

Thanks to the Sienna Fund and generous donators, dogs like Moxy get the chance to live long, healthy, happy lives.
