What is RRUFF?
RRUFF (Rescued Rottweilers United with
Friends and Family, Inc.) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
composed of volunteers who all have a love of the Rottweiler
breed and a desire to help homeless Rottweilers find their
*forever* families.
RRUFF was founded in May of 2004 and is
incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as of June
2004.
RRUFF rescues unwanted and abandoned Rottweilers from shelters in New England. We also take on a limited number
of owner surrender cases where there are exigent circumstances.
Each dog is put through a rigid temperament evaluation to test
their suitability for placement with a family. Once the dog passes
the evaluation s/he is accepted into our program and placed in
foster care. While in foster care each dog learns basic obedience,
house manners, crate training and how to live harmoniously with
a family.
We list biographies and photos of the available
dogs on our website and hold events at local pet stores to gain
exposure for the dogs in our program that are looking for forever
homes. We have a detailed adoption application process which ensures
that adoptive families meet our qualifications for adoption. Subsequent
to adoption we follow-up on the dogs we have placed to make sure
they are thriving in their adoptive homes. We also offer training
and behavioral support to adoptive families. If, for whatever
reason, the adoption does not work out we require that any dog
adopted from RRUFF be returned to RRUFF.
RRUFF is staffed solely by volunteers. Each
and every volunteer is an integral part of the operation of our
organization from the evaluators who test dogs for suitability
for inclusion in our program, to the foster homes who provide
TLC, training, food and shelter for the dogs, to our adoption
application processors who review and process applications to
ensure adoptive families meet our criteria for adopting, to volunteers
who staff educational booths who gain exposure for our organization
and help educate the public on responsible Rottweiler ownership,
to volunteers who generate fundraisers to collect funds so that
we are able to provide the dogs with medical care and the supplies
necessary to nurture them while they are in our program. This
brief summary only touches the surface of the manpower and dedication
that our volunteers provide to support our organization.
